Introduction

This game was my first play test for the Kiss Me Hardy rules from the Too Fat Lardies. The basic scenario is a large French frigate (“L'Egalite”) seeking to escape the blockade of Toulon. Running with the wind on her quarter L'Egalite makes a dash for the open sea, only to find a smaller British frigate (“Orpheus”) standing in her way.

After Action Review

The opening positions show L'Egalite running before the wind with Orpheus working towards her aiming to cut off her escape.

L'Egalite runs quickly down onto Orpheus, seeking to work around Orpheus, firing a long range broadside which does a little damage to Orpheus rigging.

It looks for a moment like L'Egalite may escape. With the damage done to her rigging, Orpheus struggles to remain in touch as L'Egalite flies past, clinging on to her tail while trying to find enough of an angle to fire, hoping for a lucky shot to slow her opponent down. Finally a lucky shot brings down L'Egalite's foremast.

L'Egalite continues attempting to escape, but slowed by her missing mast her captain realises that she will eventually be caught. With one final throw of the dice he decides to attempt a close pass, hoping to be lucky and do enough damage to the British ship to escape.

But British firepower is just too strong. Orpheus draws alongside and pummels the French ship. Eventually the French strike leaving Orpheus victorious.
