Introduction

Withdrawing from their contact with the guerrilleros of Jefe Bolanos at the outer reaches of the French area of control in the Condado de Niebla the 27th Chasseurs a Cheval are caught by a force of guerilla seeking to impede their withdrawal.

This scenario is the result of a random event.

Map

The action focuses on the withdrawal of the 27th Chasseurs across the Rio Tinto. The French start at the far end of the table, their goal is to escort the squadron's supply wagon cross the bridge and into safer territory to rejoin the rest of the regiment. Meanwhile, having forced the withdrawal on 18 March Bolanos' guerrilla force is up for a fight and keen to push the invaders back.

Orders

Duc D'Aremberg

The dismounted half squadron are to hold the bridge and farmhouse to ensure D'Aremberg and the mounted squadron can escape safely. The mounted squadron will progress down the road as quickly as possible engaging enemies they encounter as required.

Special Rules

Follow the deployment rules given in Scenario Four: Escort Duty from the Sharp Practice rulebook.

Victory

This scenario is based on Scenario Four: Escort Duty from the Sharp Practice rulebook. To claim victory the French must successfully exit the table on the opposite edge from where they entered with their supply wagon. Any other outcome is a Spanish victory.

Outcome

D'Aremberg leads his mounted squadron along the road, but is ambushed by the militia with half the troops rapidly retreating after suffering casualties. The second troop charge in but are defeated in melee combat. The dismounted squadron holds the bridge allowing most of the survivors to retreat to safety, but not before the militia have rushed in and captured the supply wagon, cutting off and capturing half the mounted squadron in the process.
